Paul MalekPaul Malek (Founder & Artistic Director of Collaboration -The Project) had extensive training from the age of 5 years old in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Character, Kinetic awareness, Improvisation, Dance Making, Folk Dancing, Acrobatics, and in his later years Lyrical and Hip Hop. Paul is a graduate of
Angela Pisa, has been teaching dance for over 12 years, which started when she offered classes to primary school children in her rural home town of Thorpdale. Since then Angela has taught extensively in all areas of dance from tiny tots through to adults, having a desire to share and continually grow her knowledge of an amazing art form. Angela holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Classical Ballet Teaching from the Victorian College of Arts, studying, ballet technique, choreography, child psychology, music for ballet, and anatomy. Angela has performed in various amateur musicals and theatre plays. She has also studied in the United States in styles such as contemporary and hip-hop. Working with many successful and accomplished Choreographers and Teachers. Angela is thrilled to be a part of MAPA and is committed to giving young people the freedom to use their imaginations and explore their creativity.
Karen is a graduate of The Australian Ballet School Teachers' Course. Karen adjudicates extensively throughout Australia and has completed the ADAP Adjudicators' Course in Sydney in 1996 and is a member of the Australian Dance Adjudicators. As an Examiner for the Australian Teachers' of Dancing, A.T.O.D., Karen examines classical ballet, national character, jazz and tap both in Australia and overseas. Former student Amy Hollingsworth, co-choreographer of the Kylie Minoigue Fever Tour, recently appeared as Queen of the Fairies in Finding Neverland. In 2005 Amy was presented with the prestigious award for Most Outstanding Female Artist (Modern) at the Royal Opera House in London for her performances with Rambert Dance Company. Karen is passionate about sharing her knowledge with others and is looking forward to developing and enriching both MAPA Australia and the MAPA Initiative - a program aimed at bringing the performing arts to the wider community. As one of eight children, Karen is grateful to her parents - Alan & Eileen Issell of Morwell and also to her teacher and mentor Joy Davey, for giving her the opportunity to experience a life filled with wonderful experiences and opportunities. It is because of her humble beginnings that she wishes to now put back and give to others.
